I Turned On The Christmas Music, And I'm Not Ashamed.

Today I played some Christmas music while I did the dishes.  Yes, I’m THAT person.

Fa-la-la-la-la-La-la-la-la.

I love Christmas, and as far as I’m concerned, the season to be jolly can last for the entire months of November and December.  I need something to offset all of that winter seasonal depression, and holiday cheer fits the bill nicely.

Christmas first waved hello to me in Starbucks.  I was there over the weekend to do a little writing, and what did I see?  Red cups!  Peppermint Mochas!

“Yippee!” I said, while waiting in line.

The woman in front of me turns around.  Did I say “Yippee?” out loud?

“The Christmas things are here!” I mumbled in a small but gleeful tone.

“Huh,” she said.

Whatever.  I drank my peppermint mocha in one of the cafe’s plushy orange chairs, and mentally planned every single moment of the next 8-10 weeks.   Christmas by nature involves list-making and if there’s one thing I love it’s a good list.  Lists of what presents to buy, when, and where, and to whom.  Lists of what to cook and bake.  Lists of what to pack on the long weekends visiting family.

And seeing as Husband and I have finally done what we always say we’re going to do, and spread our Christmas shopping out over the course of the year, it’s a bit like I’ve been celebrating Christmas ALL YEAR LONG.

Lucky me!

I feel the same way about the Christmas season. I start getting a little antsy-anxious in September, knowing that the days are getting shorter all the time and soon it will be gloomy, cold winter, and my depression will be its most fierce. The holidays keep me going until New Year's, and then there are a ton of January birthdays in my family to keep me distracted, so I only have to get through February and March without jumping off a bridge. And hey, February the shortest month of the year, right?

And lists? Love lists. I think that's what's been wrong with me lately. I can't remember the last time I made a good long list.

May your Xmas wishes come true and your list is ticked of with joy. Happy Peppermint mocha season...

@Handflapper - February is also my worst month. Thank God it's short.

@Stasha - thanks for the holiday wishes :)

I'm not against Christmas music. But I'm fully against all Christmas decorations this early. Someone a few block from my house had their Christmas lights and decorations up a week before Halloween. I wanted to torch the place. Music is fine.

Yay to loving such a cheerful time! Ah I wish I was able to get into the whole spreading out the shopping thing over the year but I so suck at that.

You are not alone with being giddy at Starbucks! I was torn between the eggnog latte and the peppermint mocha but went with the peppermint because they now have a skinny version and for some dumbass reason, I decided to work on dropping weight during the holiday season.

@Joshua - ok, Christmas decorations on your house is a BIT early, but I'll let it slide. I don't blame folks for wanting to get the chore done before it is snowy and freezing outside. Unless you're in a climate with no snow. Oh, what the heck, go for it!

@Jenn - I'm in a constant state of trying to lose some weight, but I don't let that stop me from drinking my favorite peppermint mochas.

@Lindsay - I KNOW!!!!

So that means I can fax you my Christmas lists, right? Right??? Just kidding. I'm loving Christmas but dreading the shorter and colder days.

And I'm totally Jonesing for one of those Peppermint Mochas. And to think I was just in Target with the Starbucks up front and I blew right on by. Rats.

@Lizbeth - I love Starbucks. There, I've said it.

I carefully plan all my shopping too, and try to buy things throughout the year for people. However... I usually get too excited and end up giving them the gifts for something else and then having to buy extra ones for Christmas! I did a bit of shopping today though, since it was nice and calm at the shops, and feel much better and more organized for it!

@my honest answer - it's always so hard not to over-shop!

I put my Christmas stuff up the day after Thanksgiving ... and take it down the day the girl's resume school in January. Because I loves me some sparkly tree in my living room.

Angela@BeggingTheAnswer said...

@Betty Fokker - I LOVE that you do your x-mas decorations so early. That's what I try to do too, all except the tree. We get a real tree, and I don't think one would make it for 4-5 whole weeks.

Tis the season of list making indeed. I'm all about lists too. Just yesterday I started an Excel spreadsheet to track who I have to buy for. I'm such a nerd.

I am so not in the spirt this year. Not yet anyway.

You are not alone. My holiday lights went up last weekend. Granted, we put them up early to beat the snow, but seeing as they were up, we turned them on. "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...."

Angela@BeggingTheAnswer said...

@I'm Jennifer - Oooohhh...Excel spreadsheet....drool....

@Marianna - I think I'm oozing enough Christmas spirit to make up for your lack right now. But join in when you're ready :)

@Janie - honestly, I expected a lot more eyebrow-raising and head-shaking from this post. But it looks like there are plenty of crazy people out there like me. Plus, who wants to wait until it's below zero to put outside lights up?!

Yes! I am not alone! Yippee! :)

@Jessica - yippee, indeed!
